Boer Goat Breeders of Maine Meeting Minutes
JANUARY 10, 2016 MINUTES

We all introduced ourselves and talked about our beginning involvement with goats. Members of the dairy goat associations were welcomed to the meeting. Happily both organizations will be sharing a booth at the Ag Show in Augusta January 12, 13, and 14, 2016.
Kevin Grant moved to accept the Treasurer's report as presented. Pam Grant seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
The following were ideas presented for possible workshops:
1. A.I. and related information for example: reproduction, time of breeding, etc.
(John Wilcox will try to make contact with State vet during Ag Show)
2. Parasites (Scott Leeman shared the Dairy Goat Organization is hopefully going to hold a workshop in Bangor through the Extention Program)
3. Milking your goat: handling of milk, methods, etc.
4. Anything to do with Dr. Fred Homeyer
5. Emergency vet care at home (Carrie McMahon will get in touch with a Dr. )
6. Marketing (Kyle suggested reaching Susan Schoenian at the University of Maryland for information on people in Maine qualified to do a seminar)
There was a general discussion of veternarian care or lack there of for goats.

Next meeting will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 with a pot luck lunch at 1:00 p.m. Business meeting to follow at Windsor Historical Society building.

February 27, 2016 Minutes
The regular meeting of the Boer Goat Breeders of Maine was called to order at 2:00PM on February 27,2016 at Windsor Historical Society by Pat Polley.
Pat Polley, John Wilcox, Donna Williams, Angie & Nate Philbrick, Ramona & Gabe Stinson, Mark Gould, Andy & Hannah McMullen, Carie McMahon, Tom & Lynn Ryan, Scott & Tammy Leeman, Deb Orf, & Joss Thomas.
Anne Lichtenwalner came to speak on CL in sheep and goats. She gave us the results of her study of blood testing for CL. She is looking for a few more farms for the 2016 study. If interested call Anne at 1-800-287-7170

$44.09 was spent on a new banner and posters for the club. The current balance in the club account is $2500.50
No progress on the AI seminar, milking info, state vet or marketing. Talked about contacting Bob Herr to teach carcass appraisal.
Ag Show was a success. All enjoyed sharing with the dairy club. We discussed having a joint board meeting with the dairy club to pool resources. Pat will call Deb Orf.
Website is working well, need to consolidate newsletters to limit fees. Ramona will find out fee. We need updated picture on the website to be a Boer.
Angie Philbrick stepped down as Secretary and Carie McMahon was appointed as Secretary. Approved by: All
Fairs: Topsham August 9-14 Goat show will be August 11. ABGA sanctioned show, judge needs to be secured. Ramona will call Kathy Davies Carr and one other judge. Tack & Tool sale will be held after the show. John will get prices on ribbons. Pat will talk to Dick Brown about the sale and getting the fair to pay for ribbons and judge.
Pittston Fair; July 21-24 John will talk to the president to get the ok for the show. Fun show will be on Sunday; John Wilcox will be the judge.
Litchfield Fair: September 9-11 Fun show on Sunday; Jes Merrill will be the judge. Commercial meat show in the morning.
Sale at Dick Browns on Saturday, October 15th. Pat will arrange a meeting with the board and Dick to discuss the sale details.
Trina Mainard is putting together info for Breed Registry Magazine. She will call us for individual info.
Dick Brzozowski wants to know if we are interested in a sheep and goat group?
John Wilcox motioned that the club make a donation for the use of the Windsor Historical Building. Accepted by Angie Philbrick and Seconded by Carie McMahon, Accepted by: All.
